Challenges and solutions
Automating Asset Placement for Efficiency
Manually placing and grouping hundreds of individual pallet assets cluttered the level hierarchy and slowed down iterative workflows.
Solution:
-
I created a blueprint that generates a pallet stack.
-
The blueprint lets the user control the number of pallets, their orientation, and offset, making each stack unique.
-
This approach streamlines level organisation, reducing clutter in the hierarchy while maintaining flexibility.
Adapting the Blueprint for Other Projects
Finding ways to repurpose the system for different use cases such as stacked chairs that require not only even distribution in the z-axis, but a consistent offset in the y-axis.
Solution:
-
The pallet generator blueprint was refined and adapted for client projects, such as Zombie Dog, where it controlled the number of wooden sign posts used for each menu item in the main menu/submenu screen. This demonstrated the blueprint’s versatility, making it a valuable tool for both environment artists and designers.

Final Results & Impact
The pallet generator showcases an effective technical art solution, combining procedural generation with artistic control. The blueprint system improves workflow efficiency, reduces level hierarchy complexity, and ensures consistent yet varied asset placement. By repurposing the system for client projects, the blueprint has proven to be a valuable asset in production.
